Habibi Kebs – German Kebabs in Singapore

Habibi Kebs

Habibi Kebs is a restaurant chain in Singapore that aims to spread the words of “German Kebabs”. You see from English Chinese food, to French Tacos and now German Kebabs, it is all about the fusion baby.

And German kebabs seem to be really in fashion right now, with me also trying this phenomenon at Wembley Park. That it is popular though does not mean that it is necessarily good.

What the Habibi Kebs?

German kebabs became a staple because they’re simple, satisfying, and cheap. They started in Berlin in the 1970s thanks to Turkish immigrants who adapted the traditional doner kebab into a street food hit. Instead of just sliced meat, you get it piled into flatbread with pickled red cabbage, onions, and a mix of sauces. It’s quick, filling, and available late into the night. This isn’t fancy food. It’s the perfect grab-and-go meal after a night out or a quick lunch on the run. Germany (almost) perfected this style, making kebabs a national obsession.

Habibi Kebs in Singapore launched in 2021 and currently operates just one location on Changi Road. Despite some reports of branches in Orchard and Bugis, only this one is confirmed. The menu focuses on simple, German-style doner kebabs with classic fillings and sauces, sticking to traditional flavors without overcomplicating things. The restaurant openly markets itself as “Muslim owned”. This is apparently OK in multicultural Singapore.

You can find Habibi Kebs at 204 Changi Road, Singapore 419747.Habibi Kebs Menu

Habibi Kebs Menu

Habibi Kebabs keeps things simple and honest just like the Berlin originals. Their menu is all about juicy doner meat wrapped in fresh pita bread with pickled vegetables onions and a choice of sauces like garlic mayo or spicy chili.

There are no fancy twists or gimmicks here just straightforward kebabs. Taste wise I found it a bit of a let down though with my beef kebab being overcooked and even with garlic sauce unable to dry the very overcooked chips. Not as good as donner from England, nor even a German kebab at Wembley Box. One can only guess how it compared to Nuremberg……

Conclusion on Habibi Kebs

Honestly this was pretty shit, but perhaps for different reasons than you might think. Firstly German Donner kebabs might be a thing in Germany, but hey it really really does translate. In actuality the best kebabs come from the good old UK!

And lastly this is not street food, nor even restaurant dining! Instead it is developed country mass produced bullshit that is really bad value. Honestly I’d have rather had a Singaporean McDonalds.
