Best Party Hostel in Siem Reap – Funky Village

Funky Village

If you are looking for a proper hostel vibe to party in Siem Reap then there really is nothing that quite compares to Funky Village. Located on Funky Lane and within sitting distance of Sok San and all of the other joys of Siem Reap this place has it all! Cheap rooms, even cheaper booze, a party bus and a pool full of birds in bikinis.

And it has quite an iconic status. Back during Covid they offered a live-in deal whereby you could claim the $250 rent back in consumables, as well as (formerly) the best sausage roll in town. This is not a place you come for cultural immersion, this is gap year shenanigans.

What the Funky Village?

Funky Village started as a backpacker hostel in Siem Reap catering mainly to budget travellers visiting Angkor Wat and the surrounding area. It grew as the Sok San Road area developed into the main backpacker strip, gradually expanding from a simple dorm hostel into a larger complex with a bar, pool, and event space.

Over time it became one of the main social hubs in the area, known more for its party atmosphere than its accommodation. Ownership and management have changed at points, but the concept has remained consistent: cheap beds, heavy social focus, and a constant flow of travellers passing through.

The rooms at Funky Village

They offer bunks, dorms and even monthly rentals. And of course they offer normal rooms. These are simple and theoretically have AC. They also have weird artwork, such as Walter White and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Yep it is weird but it works.

Dorm beds 3 to 8 USD
Private rooms 10 to 30 USD
Monthly rentals 150 to 250 USD depending on length of stay and negotiation

The facilities at Funky Village

Funky Village is basically built so you never really have to leave. The swimming pool sits right next to the bar and acts as the main social centre of the entire hostel, used from morning through to late evening. It is a constant mix of recovery, drinking and socialising, depending on the time of day.

They also rent bikes for around 5 USD per day, arrange bus tickets across Cambodia, offer laundry at around 1 USD per kilo, and provide general travel services including Angkor Wat tours and onward transport. Like most hostels in Siem Reap, it functions as a full travel hub as well as accommodation.

The Restaurant and Bar

I used to come here during Covid when it was famous for its pies and sausage rolls, but things have obviously changed a bit since then and the food is not what it was. To be fair though that is not all that important as they provide what their crowd wants and that is a party.

Bar is decent with friendly staff who have the ability to make shots. Oh and you can now pay by card, which goes a long way in these parts.

Draft beer 1.00+ USD
Can beer 1.75 to 2 USD
Spirit mixer 3.50 to 5 USD
Cocktail of the day 1.75
Tequila shot 2.00 to 3 USD
Cocktails 3 to 6 USD
Burger and fries 5.50 to 7.50 USD
Pizza 7 to 10 USD

The Vibe at Funky Village

I had my group stay here during the YPT Dark Tourism Khmer New Year Extension. I did this because I wanted to be front and centre of the action. And that we were! This place had fights going on outside, as well as guns everywhere – of the water variety and a non-stop party atmosphere, although to be fair it does shut at midnight.

This is the kind of place I rarely stay in now, because I am older and boy did I feel older here. Every now and again though it is good to relive a bit of the old youth!

So, yeah fair play to Funky Village, maybe not my vibe these days, but without doubt the best party hostel in Siem Reap.
