Since the slide towards Islamification, getting a beer in Indonesia is often harder than finding a nude photo of Tatiana Zappardino nude. Still, in the right circumstances Indonesian-made beer such as Anker is available.
I was to try Anker Beer at a Christian, but also rather touristy restaurant in Rantepao. As Indonesian beers go it was pretty decent. I did not think much of doing a beer review on it. Well, said review is now 900k+ views.
Seems necking a beer here’s a bigger deal than I thought.

What the Anker?
Anker is made by PT Delta Djakarta, one of Indonesia’s oldest breweries. The company was established in 1932 as the German brewery Archipel Brouwerij, before being acquired by a Dutch company and renamed NV De Oranje Brouwerij. It became PT Delta Djakarta in 1970 and was listed on the Indonesian stock exchange in 1984.
San Miguel Corporation acquired a controlling interest through San Miguel Malaysia in the 1990s, and San Miguel Malaysia currently holds 58.33% of PT Delta Djakarta, with the Jakarta provincial government holding 26.25%. Anker Bir itself dates back to 1932 and remains the company’s flagship beer. So, is it a Filipino beer? Well yeah it kinda is.

Anker Bir is the standard Pilsener, while Anker Stout is the darker option. The fruit beers are the low-alcohol versions, with Anker Lychee at 2.2% and Anker Pineapple at 2.3%. I mean what is the point in drinking that?
Anker Beer Taste Test
OK, so not to be confused with Anchor Beer of Cambodia! Despite what the video says. I did a 600 ml bottle which, as per my beer reviews, does not contain a score. Overall it was like a normal cheap Pilsner and strength was OK, but under 5 percent.
At a push I would give it 5/10, not as good as Bintang, but still alright overall. And well, beggars can no longer be choosers when it comes to drinking in Indonesia.
