Rochester Fish Bar of Borstal

Rochester Fish Bar

Located 10 minutes or so drive from Rochester High Street, Rochester Fish Bar is one the few dwindling chippies that are left within the area.

I was to find myself here after failing to find something open in Leysdown-On-Sea on the Isle of Sheppey. So, did it do the job, or should I have gone further afield? Well a bit of both.

What the Rochester Fish Bar of Borstal?

Rochester Fish Bar sits in Borstal, the place that gave its name to the Borstal prisons. The takeaway is run by Jagjeet Singh under Rochester Fish Bar Ltd, incorporated on 31 October 2023.

The fish bar itself though has been going for at least 30 years (I remember it) and was most recently known as Borstal Fish Bar.

The Menu at Rochester Fish Bar

The menu at Rochester Fish Bar was a little bit more eclectic than I would have liked, particularly as they did kebabs as well as standard fish and chips. Generally speaking, ones that do both are good at neither.

And the rest of the menu? Standard fish, saveloy and sausage dishes. A fine selection of burgers and Peri Peri Burgers. This one was newby for me.

Main menu items

Fish and Chips £8 to £9
Haddock £7 to £8
Rock £9 to £10
Skate £8 to £9
Sausage and Saveloy
Burgers £3 to £6
Peri Peri Burger £4 to £5
Lamb Doner Kebab £5 to £7
Chicken Doner Kebab £5 to £7
Mixed Kebabs £8 to £11
Chips and Onion Rings

How Did It Taste?

Overall not that bad, with the chips and Peri Peri Burgers particularly good, but the haddock being fairly badly breaded. I also got a deep fried burger which, well did what it said on the tin.

It was though far from the best chippie I have had and certainly nothing on Anchor Seafry in Lordswood for example.
