The Best Mac and Cheese in Tbilisi at Mac and Cheese Tbilisi

Mac and Cheese Tbilisi

While strolling through the streets of downtown Tbilisi the last thing I expected to encounter was a Mac and Cheese restaurant, and even less so that it would be good. I was though quite wrong! It turns out that Mac and Cheese Tbilisi, Mac & Cheese, or simple Mac Cheese Restaurant is not just good, but it turns out a bit of an institution.

What the Mac and Cheese Tbilisi?

Mac and Cheese Tbilisi opened in 2018 and has since become a staple for anyone craving comfort food in the city. It is a small, no-frills restaurant focused solely on delivering quality mac and cheese dishes. The owner, a Georgian entrepreneur, wanted to bring a simple, authentic American comfort food experience to Tbilisi with a focus on generous portions and solid flavours. The restaurant operates out of a modest space and relies heavily on takeout and delivery.

Netizens and local food reviewers often praise the place for its hearty servings and strong cheese flavours. One commenter said, “The best mac and cheese I’ve found outside of the US — rich, filling, and cheap.” Another wrote, “Perfect for curing a hangover or just when you want comfort food fast.” Some mention the informal atmosphere, noting, “Don’t expect fancy service, but the food is spot on.” Overall, it’s become a go-to spot for locals and expats looking for a quick, satisfying meal.

The Mac and Cheese Tbilisi Menu

The menu is simple but covers all the essentials of a great mac and cheese experience. The classic cheese mac and cheese bowl is a staple, made with creamy melted cheese and perfectly cooked pasta. The triple pig option is a popular choice for meat lovers, combining bacon, ham, and shredded pork in a rich, smoky mix. For those wanting a bit of crunch, the nugget mac and cheese features crispy chicken nuggets mixed right in.

Portion sizes are large, designed to fill you up without breaking the bank. Prices range from 15 to 25 Georgian Lari, making it affordable for most. You can also add extras such as additional cheese or bacon for a small additional charge, letting you customise your meal. Beyond mac and cheese, they offer a burger and a few side dishes, but these remain secondary to the main bowls. Almost all meals come in disposable bowls ideal for takeout or casual, quick dining.

And the food?

I ended up visiting Mac and Cheese Tbilisi not once, but twice! This is part testament to how great the food was, but also that it was next to the office I needed to visit and well, great when navigating a Georgian vodka hangover. Only first sitting I had the triple pig with extra cheese (that’s a thing). The pork was pretty heavy, but you got a huge bowl of very good mac and cheese which was easy to eat with a fork before the bowl decomposed. For round two I went for the “nugget Mac and Cheese” quite simply for peer pressure! You see I read someone say it “tasted so American.” And indeed it did, although the nuggets were not exactly McDonald’s.

Overall though it, and indeed everything I had here was great, with the owner obviously knowing his shit. Was it as good as Mr Mac in Nha Trang? Actually I think it was not only more authentic, but the menu is truly epic. Will I go back for the burger? Perhaps I just might.

And the service? Pretty crap, but honestly that is more a Georgian thing than a Mac and Cheese Tbilisi thing.
